CHROMEBOOK RENTAL AGREEMENT & SCHOOL POLICY AGREEMENT

Owner of Chromebooks:

  • Chromebooks that are distributed to students are the property of Knoxville CUSD #202.

Chromebook Protection:

  • The Chromebook will only provide basic protection from everyday use. It is not designed to prevent damage from drops or abusive handling. We recommend a protective case be used when transporting devices. Knoxville CUSD #202 will not be providing or selling cases for devices.

Chromebook Identification:

Chromebooks can be identified in the following ways:

  • A label on the bottom of the Chromebook with the Asset Tag and the Serial Number

  • Our internal inventory has a history that tracks Chromebooks throughout their life

  • Chargers now have an asset tag and will be tracked. Keep the charger that is given to you and do not trade it with another student.

Repairing or Replacing Your Chromebook

Chromebook Undergoing Repair:

  • Loaner Chromebooks may be issued to students when their Chromebook is sent out for repair from the IT department.

  • If repair is needed due to malicious damage, the school may refuse to provide a loaner Chromebook.

  • Students and parents will be charged for Chromebook damage that is a result of misuse or abusive handling. Parents will be billed for Dell parts and labor. The IT department has the right to decide when a Chromebook should be repaired in-house versus filing a claim.

Accidental Damage:

Knoxville CUSD #202 may bill for any repair necessary to a Chromebook to return it to its original working condition. Devices should not be disassembled or any attempt to repair by anyone other than school authorized vendors. Parents/Students will be charged the full replacement cost of a device that has been damaged due to intentional misuse or abuse.

Stickers:

Under no circumstances are students to modify, remove, or destroy service tag labels. Parents/Students will be charged for the full replacement cost of a device if the asset tag is modified, removed, destroyed, or if stickers are placed on the device by a student. ABSOLUTELY NO STICKERS ON CHROMEBOOKS. If the asset tag falls off due to normal wear and tear, IT will provide a new asset tag for the device.

Loss or Damage:

If the property is accidentally damaged or incurs loss due to an act of nature, Knoxville CUSD #202 will assess the Chromebook damage and repair or replace the device under the accidental loss or damage policy. If the property is stolen, a police report must be filed by the student or student’s parents/guardians involved in the loss of property. Loss or theft of the property must be reported to the School District by the next school day after the occurrence. Fraudulent reporting of theft will be turned over to the police for prosecution.

Repossession :

Students not complying with all terms of this agreement including the timely return of the property will be declared to be in default and authorities may be sent to your place of residence or other location of the Chromebook to take possession.

Term of Agreement:

Your right to use and possession of the property terminates no later than the last day of classes during the school year unless earlier terminated by the School District or upon student withdrawal from Knoxville CUSD #202.

Lost Chromebook:

If a device is lost the parent/guardian will be responsible for the full replacement price. The device protection plan does NOT cover the cost of a lost device.

Stolen Chromebook:

If a device is stolen you must turn in a police report to file a device protection claim. If you do not have a police report the device will be considered lost and the full replacement cost of the device will be charged.

Return:

Student’s Chromebooks and Chargers will be collected at the end of each school year. Students will retain their original Chromebook and charger each year while enrolled at Knoxville CUSD #202 for the lifecycle of the device. Any student who transfers out of Knoxville CUSD #202 will be required to return their Chromebook and charger.
